Credit Information Bureau

Credit Information Act was formed in 2005. CRO (Credit Registration Office) was incorporated in 2006. CRO objectives are:

» To enable faster decisions in providing credit
» To aid the avoidance of over indebtedness
» To assist with fraud prevention

CRO complies fully with the Credit Information Act as such private individuals may inspect their own personal Credit reports.

CRO is an electronic library or database that contains individual / personal information on the performance of Credit agreements between financial institutions (i.e. banks and Credit Cards) and borrowers (i.e. the citizen).

Credit Information Act 2005: It may be recalled that the Credit Information Companies (Regulation) Act, 2005 was passed in May 2005 and notified in the Gazette of India on June 23, 2005.
